Current and Future UK Military Exercises 2026

Defence Press Agency tracks all major UK military exercises involving the British Army, Royal Navy, Royal Air Force and Special Forces.

Dates and locations are subject to change due to operational requirements.

Exercise Storm Warrior 26-2

Type: RAF/USAF Fast Jet

Location: North Yorkshire, Northumberland, North Sea, Scottish Borders, Fife and Lothian

Description: Large-scale air operations, designed to provide challenging tactical training, prior to integration-level assessment in Exercise Cobra.

Exercise Chameleon 26-2

(TBC)

Type: Bi-annual Special Forces Exercise

Location: Phase one – various North and East training areas. Overseas for phase two.

Description: Multi-unit/nation SOF training involving units from the SAS, SBS, elements of the (restructured) United Kingdom Commando Force and Future Commando Force, and supporting Special Forces aviation, ground, and logistics assets.

Exercise Askari Storm

Type: 1st Battalion, The Duke of Lancaster's Regiment deployment exercise

Location: Salisbury Plain Training Area (SPTA)

Description: Fieldcraft, tactical awareness, and small-unit effectiveness training to build confidence and combat readiness. Then, test lethality at company level. This exercise was scheduled to take place in Kenya during August.

Exercise Cobra Warrior 26-2

Type: Multinational Fast Jet Tactical Air Exercise

Location: North Yorkshire, Northumberland, North Sea, Scottish Borders, Fife and Lothian

Description: Royal Air Force's largest and most advanced multinational tactical air exercise, serving as the culmination of various UK Qualified Weapons Instructor (QWI) courses. 26-2 is the second of two phases.

Operation Firecrest 26-2

Autumn (TBC)

Type: Carrier Strike Group

Location: Northern European waters

Description: UK-led NATO deployment including a series of exercises by the UK's Carrier Strike Group (CSG26), centred around the aircraft carrier HMS Prince of Wales.

Exercise Cambrian Patrol 2026

Type: Tri-Service Patrol Exercise

Location: Brecon Beacons, Wales

Description: Internationally renowned and one of the toughest military patrol exercises in the world, testing teams in challenging mountain and wilderness terrain.
